Early life
Masaba Gupta was raised in Mumbai and was born in 1989. Her parents are Indian actress Neena Gupta and West Indies cricketer Viv Richards. Her mother brought her up after moving the family from New Delhi to Mumbai because her parents never got married. Gupta saw her late maternal grandfather as a father figure. After turning 20, she made contact with her father again, and the two of them are now very close. She began training for tennis at the age of eight, but gave up when she was sixteen. With a strong love for both dance and music, Gupta was forbidden by her mother from joining Shiamak Davar’s dance group.
Career
At 19, designer Gupta applied for fashion in Mumbai and named her first collection Kattran. Her design aesthetic blends contemporary and traditional elements with modernity. She specializes in ethnic wear for women using silk, chiffon, cotton, and embroidery work. Gupta is known for her unconventional prints, feminine drapes, and silhouettes. In 2016, she collaborated with Maybelline New York to create a collection inspired by a new lipstick line. Her Stylista collection was a major regret. In 2017, she represented India in an exhibit featuring re-designs of Levi’s trucker jackets. Gupta is the first Indian designer to do a fashion show via Instagram and claims that around 60% of her sales happen through WhatsApp. In 2018, she launched a hijab-saree line targeting Muslim women. In 2019, Netflix announced a TV series starring Gupta and her mother, Masaba Masaba.
Education
She enrolled in a music and dance course in London but left when she was homesick and lonely. She eventually enrolled in SNDT Women’s University’s Premlila Vithaldas Polytechnic. She has a degree in apparel manufacture and design.

Masaba Gupta’s parents are Neena Gupta and Vivian Richards. In a civil ceremony, Gupta wed Madhu Mantena, a film producer, in 2015. The couple declared their trial separation at the end of 2018. September 2019 saw the official divorce of the pair. On January 27, 2023, she married Satyadeep Mishra, who portrayed her ex-husband in Masaba Masaba.
