Tamilisai Soundararajan was born on June 2, 1961 in Kaliyakkavilai, Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu. Her father Kumari Ananthan was a former MP and Congress leader. She completed her MBBS from Madras Medical College and worked as an assistant professor before entering politics.

Career

Tamilisai Soundararajan began her career as a medical professional, working as an assistant professor after completing her MBBS and MD. She later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and steadily rose through the ranks, holding key positions like Tamil Nadu BJP President from 2014 to 2019. In September 2019, she became the second Governor of Telangana state and the first woman to hold this position. She also served as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry from 2021 until her resignation in March 2024.

Education

Tamilisai Soundararajan did her graduation from Ethiraj College for Women. She pursued MBBS from Madras Medical College and obtained a post-graduate degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology from Dr. MGR Medical University in Chennai. She also received training in sonology and FET therapy in Canada.

Tamilisai Soundararajan is married to P. Soundararajan, who is a nephrologist. They have two daughters – one is an assistant professor at Saveetha Medical College and the other is a doctor.
