Early life
Harshal was born on 23 November 1990 in a small village near Navsari.
Career
Patel, a right-arm seamer, took 23 wickets in the 2008-09 Under-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy. He made his Gujarat debut in 2009-10. Harshal, a right-arm seamer, was named in the 2010 U-19 World Cup squad and signed an IPL contract with Mumbai Indians. He made an impact in the Ranji Trophy season and was given a contract by Royal Challengers Bangalore. He gained fame after taking a five-for in a flat batting track in Bangalore. He later took eight wickets for just 34 runs in the next game against Rajasthan, becoming the first Haryana player since 1991 to catch the selector’s eyes. Patel was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2012 IPL auction, then by the Delhi Daredevils in the 2018 IPL auction. In the first match of IPL 2021, he took a 5-wicket haul against Mumbai Indians, becoming the first uncapped Indian player to do so. He also bowled the joint most expensive over in IPL history. Patel was selected for the India national cricket team for the ICC Men’s T20 world cup in October 2021. He ended the season with 32 wickets, making him the highest Indian wicket taker in a single season. Before the IPL 2024,he was bought by Punjab Kings at mammoth price of 11 crores.
