Vijender Singh was born on October 29, 1985 in Kaluwas village of Bhiwani district, Haryana to a poor family. Inspired by his elder brother Manoj, a boxer in the Indian Army, Vijender Singh took up boxing to uplift his family’s financial condition.
Career
Vijender Singh had a highly successful amateur boxing career, winning bronze medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2009 World Championships, along with medals at the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. He turned professional in 2015, signing with Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions. As a pro, he has won the WBO Asia Pacific and Oriental super middleweight titles.
