Early Life
Tyson Luke Fury was born in the Wythenshawe area of Manchester on 12 August 1988, the son of Irish Traveller parents Amber and John Fury. He was born three months premature and weighed just 1 pound (450 g). His father named him after Mike Tyson, who was the reigning undisputed heavyweight world champion.
Career
Before going pro in 2008, Tyson won the super-heavyweight title of the Amateur Boxing Association of England, which marked the first significant title victory of his career. Tyson competed in his first professional bout in late 2008, which took place in Nottingham, England. He used a technical knockout to win the match against Bela Gyongosi of Hungary. He entered the professional boxing ring after two consecutive victories. For the following seven months, he faced six opponents and knocked them all out in the first round of each match. He was prepared to compete for the English heavyweight title in September 2009, which would have been the greatest fight of his career to that point. But because of how well-liked the fight was, Tyson ultimately agreed to a $100 million contract with E.S.P.N. and Top Rank. He defeated Tom Schwarz to win the Intercontinental heavyweight title in June 2019. Later in January 2020, he defeated Deontay Wilder again to win the W.B.C. heavyweight championship. Additionally, he had a brief wrestling match in the World Wrestling Entertainment promotion. Oleksandr Usyk is the first undisputed world heavyweight champion this century after he defeated Tyson Fury in 2024.
