Early life

Sidhu Moose Wala, born Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu on June 11, 1993, was from the village of Moosa in Mansa district of Punjab. He discovered his passion for singing folk songs at a young age while studying in school. After completing his electrical engineering degree, he briefly stayed in Canada before returning to pursue music full-time.


Sidhu Moose Wala began his journey writing lyrics for other Punjabi artists in 2016. But it didn’t take long for his own singing talent to take center stage with smash hits like the gangster rap anthem “So High” and “Legend.” Though criticized at times for glorifying guns and violence in his music videos, his popularity only grew. The multi-talented artist also tried his hand at acting, appearing in several Punjabi films. In 2021, he made a foray into politics by joining the Congress party and contesting elections.


Sidhu Moose Wala studied at S.Chetan Singh Sarvhitkari Sr. Sec. Vidya Mandir in Mansa for his schooling. He later pursued a degree in electrical engineering from Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College in Ludhiana, completing it in 2016.

Sidhu Moose Wala was born to Balkaur Singh, a retired Army personnel and farmer, and Charan Kaur, the village sarpanch of Moosa. His younger brother was born on March 17, 2024. At the time of his death in 2022 at age 28, Sidhu Moose Wala  was engaged to Amandeep Kaur. His family was deeply impacted by his tragic murder, with his mother getting a tattoo of his portrait inked after his passing.


Sidhu Moose Wala had a towering personality, standing tall at 6’1” with a muscular built. He sported long black hair, a thick beard, and multiple tattoos on his arms depicting Sikh symbols and motifs.


He won the Best Lyricist award at the 2017 Brit Asia TV Music Awards for his hit “So High”. In 2019, his album PBX 1 won Best Album, while “Legend” won Track of the Year and he bagged Best International Male Act and Best Lyricist awards. His songs like “47” and “295” charted in international markets. He performed at major festivals like Wireless Fest in London in 2021.
