Who is Shreyas Iyer ?

Shreyas Iyer is an Indian international cricketer who plays for the Indian cricket team as a right-handed batter. He has played in all formats for the Indian team. Iyer scored a century in his debut test match and a half-century in the second innings against New Zealand in November 2021 and became the first Indian player to do so. Iyer plays for Mumbai in domestic cricket and captains Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League. He played for the India Under-19 cricket team at the 2014 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He was named in the India Squad for 2023 Cricket World Cup. He was a part of the Indian squad which won the 2023 Asia Cup.

Early life

Shreyas Iyer was born on 6 December 1994 in the Chembur, Bombay (Mumbai). His father Santosh Iyer is Tamilian and his mother Rohini Iyer is a Tuluva. His ancestors are from Thrissur, Kerala.

Career

Shreyas Iyer  made his debut for Mumbai in November 2014, scoring 297 runs in a tour of Britain. He made his first-class debut in December 2014, averaging 809 runs in the 2014-15 Ranji Trophy. Iyer became the top scorer in the 2015-16 Ranji Trophy, hitting 1,321 runs with a 73.39 average. In the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy, he hit 725 runs with a 42.64 average. In 2018, Iyer was named Vice-Captain of Mumbai for the 2018-19 Vijay Hazare Trophy and captain of the India B squad for the 2018-19 Deodhar Trophy. In 2019, he hit 147 runs in a T20 match. Shreyas Iyer was signed by the Delhi Daredevils in 2015 for 2.6 crores, making him the highest-earning uncapped player in the tournament. He became the youngest captain to captain the Delhi Daredevils team in IPL history and the fourth youngest overall to manage an IPL team. In 2019, he led the Delhi Capitals to the playoffs for the first time in seven years and guided them to their first IPL final against the Mumbai Indians. In 2021, he missed half the season due to a left shoulder injury, but made a comeback after a six-month span. In 2022, he was purchased by the Kolkata Knight Riders for ₹12.25 crores and named the team’s captain. Shreyas Iyer was a key player in India’s cricket team, making his Test debut in November 2017. He was called up to India’s T20I squad in October 2017, making his debut against New Zealand. Iyer made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in December 2017, scoring 88 runs in the 2nd ODI. He scored 31 runs in the second ODI against the West Indies in December 2019. In September 2021, Iyer was called up for the 2021 ICC T20 Men’s World Championship and made his Test debut against New Zealand in November 2021. Shreyas Iyer, an Indian cricketer, made history in November 2021 by scoring a first century against New Zealand. He broke Virat Kohli’s record for most runs scored by an Indian batsman in a three-match bilateral T20I series against Sri Lanka. In March 2022, he was named man of the match and ICC Player of the Month. Iyer reached his second ODI century in October 2022. However, he was not included in India’s squad for the 2022 T20 World Cup. Shreyas Iyer, who suffered back pain after the Sri Lanka series, pulled out of the New Zealand series and the Aus-ODI series. He underwent back surgery in England and was unavailable for the ICC Test Championship final against Australia. Iyer scored 105 runs in the 2nd ODI against Australia, earning the Man of the Match award.
