Born in Mumbai on August 16, 1989, Sanil Shetty was born prematurely with a hole in his heart. Despite his medical condition and restrictions on physical activity in childhood, he found his passion for table tennis at the age of 9 when his brother gifted him a racquet on his birthday.


Sanil Shetty’s career in table tennis took off after joining YMCA Andheri, where he trained under coach Deepak Mani for 12 years. He then moved to Germany to train with Peter Engel. Sanil Shetty’s major achievements include gold medals at the 2022 and 2018 Commonwealth Games, 2015 Asian Championships, and multiple other international and national titles.
