Early life

Born in Durban in 1990 to a family of Indian origin, Keshav Maharaj took to cricket from a very young age under the guidance of his father, a former wicketkeeper-batsman. He progressed through age-group and domestic cricket in South Africa before making his international debut in 2016.

Career

Keshav Maharaj made his Test debut for South Africa against Australia in 2016, becoming the first specialist spinner to debut at the WACA. He has achieved several milestones like a 9-wicket haul against Sri Lanka, becoming the second South African to take a Test hat-trick, and reaching 100 Test wickets quickly. A reliable all-rounder, he has played key roles in ICC events. Keshav Maharaj has also captained South Africa in ODIs and T20Is occasionally.
