K.S. Chithra, born on July 27, 1963, in Trivandrum, Kerala, began her musical journey at a young age. Encouraged by her parents, a musician and teacher, she improved her skills in classical music. In 1978, she earned a National Talent Search Scholarship, receiving vocal training under Professor K. Omanakutty. Her talent blossomed, leading to her debut in the music industry in the early 1980s.


Debuting in the early 1980s, she mesmerized audiences with iconic songs like “Rajani Parayu” in Malayalam, “Poojaikketra Poovithu” in Tamil, and “Paadalenu Pallavaina” in Telugu. Her breakthrough hits include “Manjal Prasadavum” (Nakhakshathangal), “Padariyen Padippariyen” (Sindhu Bhairavi), and “Ovvoru Pookalume” (Autograph). With over 25,000 songs to her credit, she’s collaborated with top composers like Ilaiyaraaja, A.R. Rahman, and M.G. Radhakrishnan.


K.S. Chithra pursued a master’s degree in music from the University of Kerala. Additionally, she received honorary doctorates from Sathyabama University, Chennai, in 2011, and the International Tamil University, United States, in 2018, acknowledging her contributions to the music industry.
