Early life

Kalvakuntla Kavitha was born on March 13, 1978, in Karimnagar, Andhra Pradesh (now Telangana) to K. Chandrashekar Rao and K. Shobha. After completing her B.Tech in Computer Science and M.Sc., she worked as a software engineer in the USA before returning to India in 2006 to support her father’s Telangana movement.

Career

K. Kavitha actively participated in the Telangana statehood movement and founded Telangana Jagruthi in 2006 to unite people through cultural heritage. She was elected to Lok Sabha from Nizamabad in 2014 but lost in 2019. She established skill centers and promoted Bathukamma festival globally. Kavitha served on parliamentary committees and was nominated to the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians’ steering committee. Currently an MLC from Nizamabad since 2020, she heads trade unions and was the youngest State Chief Commissioner of Bharat Scouts and Guides in Telangana. Recently, she was arrested over alleged involvement in the Delhi liquor policy scam.

Education

K. Kavitha completed her B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology in Hyderabad. She later pursued a Master of Science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in the United States.

K. Kavitha comes from a political family. Her father K. Chandrashekar Rao was the first Chief Minister of Telangana. She is married to businessman Devanapalli Anil Kumar since 2003 and they have two sons, Aaditya and Aarya. Her brother K.T. Rama Rao is a minister in the Telangana government.
