Who is Dilip Ghosh?

Dilip Ghosh is an Indian politician from West Bengal’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He served as the state president of the BJP in West Bengal from 2015 to 2021 and is currently a Member of Parliament representing the Medinipur constituency in the Lok Sabha. Early life

Born on August 1, 1964, in Kuliana village of Paschim Medinipur district, West Bengal, Dilip Ghosh came from a modest family. After schooling in his village, he pursued a diploma in engineering from a polytechnic college in Jhargram. He started his political journey as an RSS volunteer in 1984.


Dilip Ghosh joined the BJP in 2014 after working with the RSS for decades. He was appointed the West Bengal BJP chief in 2015 and served in that role till 2021. Under his leadership, the BJP made significant gains in the state, winning 18 Lok Sabha seats in 2019. Dilip Ghosh himself won the Medinipur parliamentary seat that year. He courted several controversies for his provocative remarks against opponents. In 2021, he was elevated as one of the BJP’s national vice presidents but was replaced in 2023 after the party’s poor performance in panchayat polls.


After completing his schooling from a village school in Kuliana, Dilip Ghosh claims to have pursued a diploma in engineering from a polytechnic college in Jhargram, West Bengal. However, the college records do not show him as a student there.
