Jayasimha better known as Bobby Simha, is an Indian actor who predominantly appears in Tamil and Telugu films. After making brief appearances in the films Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi and Pizza (2012), he portrayed a kidnapper in Nalan Kumarasamy’s Soodhu Kavvum and a comic villain in Alphonse Putharen’s Neram. Simha’s subsequent performance as the Madurai gangster Sethu in Karthik Subbaraj’s Jigarthanda (2014) won him critical acclaim and the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor. His recent movie Razakar was also appreciated by the audience.

Early life
On November 6, 1983, Bobby Simha was born in Secundrabad, Andhra Pradesh, into a Telugu family (now Telangana). Simha’s family relocated to Kodaikanal in 1995, however they were originally from Mopidevi in the Krishna region of Andhra Pradesh. He studied in Coimbatore’s Pioneer College of Arts and Science. He took part in the Naalaya Natchathiram event in Coimbatore in 2005, when the principal guests, Sundar C and E. Ramdoss, recommended that he try his hand at acting in Tamil movies. Simha claimed he was contacted about appearing in a TV show in Chennai, and that it wasn’t until he travelled there from Coimbatore that he realized he had been duped. After completing his degree, Simha returned to Chennai in an attempt to pursue an acting career, but ultimately he ended up working in marketing and insurance sector.

Bobby Simha, a talented actor, began his career in 2007 with uncredited roles in Maya Kannadi and Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi. He later worked with short-film maker Manikandan and short-film maker Karthik Subbaraj, collaborating on several short films. Simha gained critical acclaim in 2013 with Soodhu Kavvum and Neram, and in 2014, he starred in Jigarthanda, an ageing Madurai gangster. His performance earned him the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor. Simha also appeared in Beware of Dogs and Aadama Jaichomada, and in 2015, he appeared in Urumeen. In 2016, he portrayed a softer role in Bangalore Naatkal, and in 2017 in Thiruttu Payale 2. Simha signed to play as antagonist in Saamy Square (2018). In 2019, he released Petta, Agni Devi, and Edaina Jaragocchu. Simha’s performance in Jigarthanda was ranked among the 100 Greatest Performances of the decade by Film Companion. In 2020, he played the antagonist in Disco Raja and in Amazon Prime Video’s Anthology Putham Pudhu Kaalai. In 2022, he played a pivotal role in Mahaan.
